Granny 1

About Granny 1

Granny 1 is a horror arcade game where you wake up in a dark room, your head pounding like someone hit you with a brick, and the only source of light is a flashlight lying on a table. No one invited you here. No one wants you here. Especially the old lady of the house, a grandmother with superhuman hearing who doesn't like disobedient children.

  • Your mission is simple: escape Granny's house.

But the challenge is anything but simple. She hears everything. Dropping a single spoon is enough for her to rush to your spot like a tornado. You can hide in closets or under beds, but if she finds you hiding… let's just say it won't end well.

The game was released in 2017 by the famous publisher DVloper. It offers a first-person horror experience that keeps you on edge from start to finish.

Setting: A House With No Way Out

You wake up on a strange bed. You remember nothing. The room is pitch black except for a faint flashlight beam. You soon realize you're trapped in Granny's house – an old woman rumored to have locked up many victims before you. The front door is locked. The windows are bolted. Every exit is guarded by traps or by Granny's own dog-like ears.

You have 5 days. Every time Granny catches you or you trigger a trap, you lose one day and wake up back in bed. If you run out of 5 days without escaping… you don't want to know what happens.

How to play Granny

How to play Granny: Sneak, Hide, Run, and Survive

Every sound works against you

Granny 1 has incredible hearing. Drop an item? She hears it. Step on a creaky floorboard? She hears it. Open a cabinet too hard? She hears that too. And when she hears something, she rushes straight to your location at terrifying speed.

This forces you to move softly, drop items on soft surfaces (like armchairs, carpets, or grass outside), and always keep an escape route in mind.

Hiding takes skill too

You can hide in closets or under beds. But don't think just crawling in keeps you safe. If Granny sees you crawl in before you close the door, she knows exactly where you are. And once she knows… she will come visit.

Interact with almost everything

Granny lets you open boxes, pull drawers, pick up keys, disable traps, and even throw items to distract the old lady. Every object in the house can become a survival tool if you know how to use it.

Multiple escape routes

There's no single way out. You can:

  • Escape through the front door after finding the right parts
  • Escape by car in the garage
  • Escape by helicopter or boat (in the sequels)

Each escape method requires you to find specific items, and they are placed randomly every time you play. You can't memorize locations. You have to search the entire house from scratch each run.

Tips and Tricks for Beginners

Make noise in one room, go to another

Granny is attracted to sound. Drop something or slam a door in one corner of the house, then quietly move to the opposite corner to do something that takes time.

Don't let her see you hide

The old lady isn't very smart, but she won't fall for the same trick twice. If she sees you crawl into a closet, she will open it immediately. Make sure she doesn't watch you before you close the door.

Drop items silently

Drop items on carpets, cushioned chairs, wooden tables, or grass outside. Never drop them on bare tile or bare wooden floors.

Learn where the creaky floors are

Some floorboards make noise when you step on them. Memorize their locations and walk around them.

Run if you can

Unless you're playing on the hardest difficulty, you run faster than Granny. Just don't get cornered. Close doors behind you to slow her down.

The Sequels

Granny: Chapter Two (2019)

The second installment introduces a new antagonist: Deaf Grandpa. Granny still hears everything, but Grandpa doesn't hear well – however, he hits hard. You can choose to play against either Granny or Grandpa. There are also new items and two new escape methods: by helicopter or by boat.

Granny 3 (2021)

The third game puts you in a new house with a new enemy: Slendrina – Granny's granddaughter. There are two escape routes: the front gate and the subway train (added later). New map, new puzzles, and Slendrina's presence guarantee you won't sleep well for a few nights.

Conclusion

Granny is not a game you play to relax before bed. It's where you go to test your patience, observation skills, and decision making under pressure. The smallest noise could be your end. Every time you open a closet could be the last time you see daylight.

But that tension is exactly what makes Granny so addictive. You will fail. You will get caught many times. You will have those "almost escaped" moments that make your heart stop. And then you'll hit "Play Again" – just to see if you can do better this time.

If you love the feeling of suspense, nerve wracking stealth moments, and the joy of victory after countless failures… play Granny.
